The Maiden is a painting by the Austrian painter Gustav Klimt painted in the year 1913. The Virgin occupies a special place in Klimt’s oeuvre. The celebration of young life and the phenomenon of a woman’s existence. Klimt painted it in his later creative period when the theme of the “femme fatale” gave way to the dream-like sensuality of a young girl.
Inspired by the colorful and emotionally expressive works of Munch, Matisse, Toulouse-Lautrec, and the Fauves, Klimt opted for a kaleidoscopic style that favored the figures at the center of his paintings. The painting depicts six women that are interlacing. Each woman represents a particular life stage. The painting touches on various topics of human life, such as love, sexuality, and regeneration which are depicted in cyclical shape.
Inspired by Klimt’s most vibrant and psychedelic work which signifies a stylistic change in his art and deals with a theme of a girl’s sensual awakening JWS crafted this printed shirt based on his painting and his work.
